Amazing picture. I wanted to know whether there are any campgrounds near Bay area which you would recommend for camping with small kids and preschoolers. BTW, I love your blog and have followed it for some time. I came to know about Roberts Regional Park from your blog and loved the place. I am also in your meetup group but have been unable to come to any meetup. I will be coming to the Butterfly and Bird festival next weekend and I hope to meet you there. When are you planning to come?

A post about Bay Area campgrounds has been on my to-do list for months! Maybe I’ll finally get around to it this month (we have campouts to two Bay Area campgrounds on the calendar within the next couple weeks). For super-nearby camping to the Oakland area, I would recommend Lake Chabot. Other local campgrounds are at Lake Del Valle and up on Mount Diablo. With an hour or so, you could be in the Santa Cruz mountains at Big Basin or Henry Cowell Redwoods State Parks, or head just outside of Pescadero to Butano State Park (our favorite!). Nearby in the North Bay, a favorite of ours is Samuel P. Taylor State Park, which is super close to Point Reyes.
The Butterfly and Bird Festival is truly one of our favorites!! When we go to festivals, I always try to arrive right at the beginning, or even a bit early! I’ll post contact info within the event later in the week. 🙂
