I often wonder what happened to his leg… I first noticed it missing a few weeks ago.

I’m watching him scurry around the yard right now, making breakfast of the seed the birds dropped from the feeder. We can’t know for sure, but he does seem well and happy! I hope he is.

Close call with a cat or dog maybe? It’s been so warm here in Wyoming the squirrels have been much more active than in winters past. They have really done a number on my yard… I’m guessing I have a few less blooming bulbs this spring, but that’s the way it goes.

Yes, maybe a cat. Or a fox or coyote? Or rat trap? Our winters are so much milder than yours, the squirrel activity here seems to be about the same year round (except during acorn season). Daily this guy visits in an attempt to figure out how to get into our bird feeder. We got the feeder five months ago, and he hasn’t figured it out yet. 🙂

That’s a good bird feeder. Those squirrels are determined and acrobatic when it comes to bird seed.

He kept raiding and knocking down our old one, so I did a ton of research to find a squirrel proof one. Seems to be working do far!

I’m glad to hear he’s getting around. It still made me feel kind of sad for him.

It makes me sad, too. But he does seem to be adapting quite well. He seems to get in more scrapes than the other squirrels. Last June, this guy had a raw, red spot above his nose from scraping it on something. It took quite a while to heal. But as a result, I can always tell it’s him by the black mark between his eyes. Now, of course, the leg distinguishes him even more.

He seems to move around pretty good! I had to really look closely to figure out his leg was missing. He climbs up and down the fence and jumps from tree to tree as well as any of the other squirrels, as far as I can tell. It’s pretty amazing.
