Butterfly, The Fen, Yosemite Valley

Quite a few of these beautiful butterflies were fluttering around “The Fen” in Yosemite Valley on Saturday morning.

Haven’t heard of “The Fen”?  It’s one of my favorite little spots in Yosemite Valley.  It’s a short boardwalk trail through a marsh.  If you follow the trail from the Happy Isles shuttle stop to the Nature Center (open May through September), you’ll find the trail off to your right.

This is a lovely spot to explore with a child, though there can be a lot of mosquitoes in the early summer.  Most people rush right on past here, if they pass through at all, on a mission to hike up to Vernal or Nevada Falls, or Half Dome.  I suspect most people don’t even know it’s here.  Lovely…

I enjoyed your butterfly photos, as well as other posts like the Stellars Jay one. We do not have either of those species on the East Coast! You have a nice eye for photography, capturing images of nature and of your son. Great photos, keep shooting and thank you for sharing.

No, I haven’t tried it out yet. I’m feeling overwhelmed this week, but I’m hoping to do the “happy” challenge and try it out! I’ve been loving what everyone has been posting!

One of the butterflies sat there and turned around and around repeatedly, putting it’s wings up, then down, then up again. It was a perfect model.

I love that they felt the need to define what a “fen” is on the sign. 🙂
